June 2018 Meeting Recap

At our June meeting, we welcomed Lori from The Restoration House of East Tennessee, the local nonprofit for which the KMQG makes quilts for donation. We've welcomed a lot of new members in the past year, so we thought it was a good time to educate the membership about what The Restoration House does and why we make quilts for them. We encourage everyone to visit their site and learn more about the life-changing support they provide to single-mother families. Lori left us feeling energized and ready to make more quilts for their grads!

Speaking of our charity quilt projects, we have a new one! We've chosen the Ribbon Star block from Fresh Lemons Quilts, and we're asking for a colorful palette of solids with white. Blocks are due at the August meeting.

Here's the link to the tutorial: http://www.freshlemonsquilts.com/solstice-stars-series-ribbon-star/

And here's the solids palette we would like everyone to use, paired with white. We'd like to see 4 colors per block, but if you can't manage that with your stash, a minimum 2 colors works as long as you position them at opposite corners.

Some miscellaneous business --
  • Our mini quilt show on June 1 was a success! Thanks to everyone who contributed quilts, time, and more. Our next, larger show will be in April 2019, so start brainstorming!
  • Member registration for QuiltCon 2019 in Nashville (Feb 21-24) opens this Tuesday! Members should have received emails from the MQG with links to the workshop catalog and registration. You can also find all the info at www.quiltcon.com.
And now show and tell!

Some of our finished Tubular Baskets from the May workshop with Michelle! There were more baskets at the meeting, but SOME people snuck out before I could grab them for a photo!
