May 2020 Meeting Recap

Our May meeting was held via Zoom. We're grateful to have this platform to continue to hold meetings safely.

We had a lively round of Show and Tell. We got to see quilts, knitting, crochet, and cross-stitch.

Our Featured Freebie was presented by Elizabeth. It's a tutorial from Suzy Quilts, How to Chain Piece Quilt Rows. This a great technique to use to help prevent twisting blocks or flipping rows when assembling a quilt top. Be sure to check out the new Featured Freebies page on our website, http://www.knoxvillemqg.com/p/featured-freebie.html. You'll find a new tab in the menu bar to access the Featured Freebies. Also, we're always accepting volunteers for Featured Freebies for future meeting. Please share your go-to free videos or tutorials with us. Email modknoxville@gmail.com to sign up for a monthly meeting.

If your planner is feeling neglected, we discussed several schedule changes and events that might be of interest.

  • The MQG is transforming QuiltCon to a virtual experience for February 2021. The catalogue should be released in June with registration in July. See FAQs at https://www.quiltcon.com/faq
  • The Smoky Mountain Quilters of Tennessee 40th Anniversary Ruby Jubilee has been postponed until July 30-31, 2021
  • The 2020 Asheville Quilt Show has been cancelled. The next Asheville Quilt Show will be September 24-26, 2021
Now that your schedule is updated, let's talk about potential projects.

KMQG has a new Restoration House charity block, the Quarter Log Cabin. The color palette is the background fabric (pic on the right). The tutorial can be found here.

If you are interested in satisfying your designing urges, the MQG is looking for Modern quilts and blocks to feature in Modern Monthly in 2021. Submissions can be sent to submissions@themodernquiltguild.com

#showusyourmqg & #MQGKeepCalmandSewOn Remember to check out these hashtags on Instagram for lots of modern quilty inspiration. Don’t forget to use them - and #KMQG - to tag your modern quilty images when posting there as well.

The QuiltCon 2021 Community Outreach Challenge has been announced. The theme is Curves and the color palette is below. If the guild is interested in participating in this challenge, we'll need some volunteers. It takes a committee to organize a group project of this scope. If you're interested in being a member of the Community Outreach Challenge Committee, please email us at modknoxville@gmail.com. For more details about the challenge, click here.

That's all the information I have to pass along for now. Our next meeting will be Saturday June 20th. Look for an email announcing the meeting platform or venue.
