April 2020 Meeting Recap

The Knoxville Modern Quilt Guild met Saturday, April 18 via Zoom.

We briefly discussed how the KMQG Chromatic Quiltalong is going for those participating. We got to see some of the fabric choices in action as several members had blocks made up.

Pat Pike's blocks

Lori Gibson's blocks

Elizabeth Rea's blocks

Sandy Rea's blocks

Erin Keegan's blocks

We have a new Restoration House charity block to work on. It’s called the Quarter Log Cabin. The link to Elizabeth’s tutorial is at http://www.inspiremegrey.com/2020/04/quarter-log-cabin-block-tutorial.html

We’re always on the look out for Featured Freebies for future meetings. If you have a favorite free pattern or tutorial, please share it with the group. Submit your ideas to modknoxville@gmail.com.

We had several show and tell projects at our Zoom meeting. I tried capturing via screenshot but the pictures are blurry and some of the facial expressions caught were, um, not flattering. Such is the way with a live feed. Let’s just say we had some busy members and hopefully they’ll share their work again in person.

While you're Safer at Home don’t forget about the myriad of resources at the Modern Quilt Guild website, https://www.themodernquiltguild.com. You can watch webinars live and send your questions to the moderator or watch later at your convenience. There are block studies, quilt patterns, episodes of Fresh Quilting, and many webinars on a variety of topics. This is a valuable part of your KMQG membership.

Many of our members have been making masks. A local resource for mask makers is https://knoxmakesmasks.com. There is also a Facebook group, Knox Makes Masks. The website offers many resources for the area and is worth checking out.

Our next meeting is scheduled for May 16th. Stay tuned for more details!

Finished Barn Quilts

In March, the KMQG hosted Suzi Parron for a workshop to paint barn quilts. We had a great turnout, welcoming a few members from the Village Quilters guild in nearby Loudon, TN, and everyone had a fun time sketching, taping, painting and watching paint dry!

Suzi came with some patterns to choose from, and some attendees opted to use their own designs. Check out the results!
