July 2020 Meeting Recap

The July meeting of the Knoxville Modern Quilt Guild was held via Zoom July 18th, 2020. We had 14 members attend.

Our latest charity quilt project for The Restoration House of East Tennessee was discussed. Pat Pike volunteered to assemble the quilt. Blocks need to be sent to Pat by August 1st. We used the Quarter Log Cabin block (tutorial by Elizabeth Rea here). The color palette was solid colors pulled from the print fabric on the right.

We also discussed the QuiltCon Community Outreach challenge. A coloring page of the proposed quilt design was sent to the membership via email. We're asking our members to use the color palette provided to color it and make any suggestions concerning construction on the page. Snap a picture of the coloring page and email it to modknoxville@gmail.com by Saturday, August 8.

QuiltCon registration opened earlier this month and we had a lively discussion about classes and lectures. Registration for QuiltCon Together seems to be going smoothly.

Show and Tell was fascinating as always. It's so much fun to see our members' projects.

Our next meeting is Saturday, August 15th.

June 2020 Meeting Recap

The Knoxville Modern Quilt Guild met Saturday, June 20 via Zoom. Show and Tell was delightful.

We are still working on the Quarter Log Cabin charity block. We currently don’t have a deadline for these so our members can work on them at their leisure. The tutorial, generously written by Elizabeth Rea, can be found on her blog here. The color palette is the fabric on the right, below.

Our Featured Freebie this month was the Open Wide Zippered Pouch from Anna Graham’s Noodlehead blog. Jennifer showed us one she had made and described how several others were currently in use in her home (Hint: tiny kid toys).

KMQG now has a Pinterest account, check it out here.

The latest webinars from the Modern Quilt Guild are Big Stitch Hand Binding and Scrappy Triangles.

Also, the Modern Quilt Guild has released the QuiltCon Together catalog and lecture schedule (yay!) Which leads us to the QuiltCon 2021 Community Outreach Challenge. KMQG has formed a design committee headed by Emily Doane. The theme is: Curves. The color palette is pictured below.

Our next meeting is July 18th, venue TBD.
