Reminders - no meeting and no Open House this month

Just a few reminders about our activities this month.

We will NOT be having a February meeting due to the Quiltcon festivities happening in Austin this weekend.

Also, the Open House originally scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26 had been canceled due to scheduling issues, and will be rescheduled for a later date. Keep your eyes on this blog for more information soon about when that will be rescheduled!

Wonky Star Block Drive in memory of Stephanie Hicks

It is with great sadness we announce that one of our founding members and dear friend, Stephanie Hicks lost her hard fought battle with cancer this morning. Stephanie was involved with the KMQG from the very beginning, attending our very first meeting and almost every meeting up until the very end. We loved seeing her bright quilts that she enjoyed making for her loved ones and those in need. She helped organize our very first guild retreat and was always excited to attend the next retreat! She served the guild in many ways over the years, volunteering as photographer, secretary and vice-president and coordinating construction and delivery of many quilts that were donated to those in need. She always shared her love of quilting with others and introduced many to our guild! She loved the beach, bright colors, Wonky Stars! and more than anything, her son. Please pray for her family and friends during this time. She will be greatly missed.

In honor of her memory, we will be running a Wonky Star charity block drive.
The stars should be 12.5" unfinished and should be made in Stephanie's favorite, bright colors - solids only, please.
We are so grateful to all those interested in donating blocks.  If you would like to mail your blocks, please contact us at modknoxville@gmail.com for our address.

You can find a tutorial for a Wonky Star block, here (by The Silly BooDilly).

For your blocks, please use the color swatch below for reference.  Any aqua, green, yellow, orange, and magenta - with cream for a neutral.  The background can be any of these colors as well as the stars.

We will be accepting blocks through April 18, 2015

In reviewing our bylaws to make sure we were compliant, we noted several sections that needed updated wording in order to reflect our current practices.  A rewording of sections 3.2, 3.3 and 7.5 was proposed.  These bylaw amendments were seconded and passed unanimously! We will be sure to post the updated bylaws shortly.

KMQG BOM 2012

We just had a MQG contact us (Hi, Central Jersey MQG!) about using our BOM from 2012.  And since we've migrated from Ning (our original website) and our content there is no longer available, we realized it's time to upload all this info to our blog so that it's available for everyone!

In 2012, there were very few Modern BOM programs.  But the members of the KMQG wanted to try out some different, modern blocks. Seeing a need, members Robin S. and Emily D. set to work compiling a Block of the Month for our little guild.  These patterns are always free to use. We simply ask that you not charge for the patterns and of course we always appreciate a reference to our guild!  Please don't hesitate to e-mail us if you ever find a broken link or need more information about a block.

One of these patterns IS NOT original:  The "Circle of Geese" block is by piecebynumber.com and we just included it because we loved it so much!  So please refer to her terms of use regarding those templates.
http://piecebynumber.com/circleofgeese.htm (her terms of use are on the actual template, I think)

KQMG Sampler Along

Good morning everyone!  Hope the Easter Bunny brought you some candy.  He definitely stopped at my house.  Just wanted to post info about our Sampler Along!  Remember to post pics and use #KMQGsampleralong on instagram and flickr!  After talking about the trends within the MQG at our last meeting, we thought we would start a quilt-a-long to show off our favorite modern fabrics in a traditional type pattern.

All you have to do is decide on a quilt with blocks like these listed below:
(but we didn't want the pattern to be restrictive so find one you love! And join in!)

Farmer's Wife
Gypsy Wife, Jen Kingwell
Green Tea and Sweet Beans, Jen Kingwell
Marcelle Medallion, Alexia Abregg
Tula Pink City Sampler
Midnight at the Oasis
Amish with a Twist 2, kit at Mammaw's Thimble
Create your own design with your favorite quilt blocks!

Complete a couple blocks (or rows) each month and bring to our meetings to show your progress, offer tips and  That's it!  Hopefully, by December we will have some gorgeous quilt tops to show off!

Can't wait to see what everyone has started on!
